Estate Maintenance Update

December 2024

November was another mixed month weather-wise; the leaves finally came down on the first frost that we had. Nearly all have now been cleared up. Grass is still having its last cut as we progress around the estate.

Work schedule

  • Weed killing: spraying is on-going across the estate but is directly affected by the weather, wind and rain stops spraying. There have been more problems with parked cars than normal which leaves gaps where weeds will subsequently grow.
  • Moss killing: This has been progressing and we have rolled out about 40% of the estate. Work on-going.
  • Litter picking: continues to be carried out on all areas 3 to 5 times a week.
  • Grass cutting: The grass is being cut progressively around the estate to freshen it up and remove the last knockings of leaf debris.
  • Hedge cutting: We have continued to cut the hedges around the estate on a priority basis. We are now progressing around the estate cleaning them up.
  • Garage forecourts and driveway lanes: in general have all been cleared. On-going clearance.
  • Green waste management: We no longer stockpile the waste in the yard. We are currently moving the waste by skips with agreement from neighbouring residents as to the best timings. We have just changed the skip again with a view to having it as the last one of the year..
  • Trees: New trees are being inspected on a regular basis, any needs will be addressed as necessary.
  • Shrub areas: All new shrubs are being watered on the same basis as the trees.
  • Hurst Road: There is still some hedge cutting required between the railings and the Care Home.
  • Tree surgery: nothing new to report.
  • Fly tipping: nothing new to report.
  • Leaf collection: All but a few to go, otherwise completed.
  • Lawn edging: on-going in areas that require it.
  • Lawn restoration works: will continue as before. The lawns are looking good and very green.
  • Pruning: pruning of shrubs and roses continue as we dead head, the raised beds that are full of bulbs, in particular bluebells, have all been cleared but with the mild weather have grown up again.
  • Gardeners’ compound: this area is now part of the regular estate walkabout. We continue to clear old material that has been saved and upcycled but not used for a long time. The yard is currently empty and looking good..
  • Replacement tree on mound opposite Tesco’s is on watch. The tree ties have been either removed or damaged – we have a more appropriate stake in stock. This is on-going. We continue to water the tree.
  • Summer Meadow: the large garden area between Bedster and Tufton has all been cut back and removed.
